Just got these two recent paintings back from the framer. I have been working on them for over 6 months - I had a wee holiday from them to complete a commission and when I came back I had changed my mind about how they should look. The patterned background is the beginning of something for me I think.
I've been looking a lot at the Japanese Masters again as well as the painters who were influenced by the Uchiyo-e style at the turn of the 20th Century. The whole surface of the painting or print is saying something either in colour, pattern or brush work. Got me thinking about where I can take my ladies next.

This a new painting just finished last week. I have used this sari in another work from last year but I felt it needed painting again. I love the intensity of the cerulean blue combined with the burgundy. My model Harriet has been an ongoing source of inspiration this year. Her hair was terrific to paint. You will no doubt recognise her face in a LOT of my recent work. I love it when a model can motivate like this.
This is a painting with a bit of a different theme for my usual work. I was asked to produce something with a 007 feel to it for an exciting upcoming group exhibition. It has been so much fun to do. The replica derringer gun was made by our inhouse studio blacksmith/silversmith Bryony Knox. A real one was quite hard to come by!
I wil post the final finished piece once the dates are confirmed for the show. It should be a fantastic one with most of the good and great of Scotlands art world taking part.

I have been working on a private commission the last few month and finally completed this week. it is abig one at 6ftx4ft in size. It was a challenge but extremely enjoyable to paint at the scale. Everything looks too small now. The customer has kindly allowed me to post images of the painting -so you can see a close up shot of the brush work.

CK Contemporary have just opened the doors to their new gallery in San Francisco. You can see two of my works 'Recline in Green Kimono' and 'Preparation' hanging on the back wall. I think they have done a fantastic job in the design of the space.
BTW the painting 'Preparation' was the one with the bubble wrap damage - It looks like it has been well restored. Thank the heavens!
You can pop in of you are in the area at 357 Geary Street, San Francisco, CA. http://ckcontemporary.com/
